As an Austin Wedding Photographer, I have had the privilege of witnessing countless wedding mornings and capturing the beauty and excitement of brides getting ready for their big day. During this time, I’ve come to realize that there is so much more to getting ready than just applying makeup and putting on a dress. Here are a few things that I believe a photographer can teach a bride during the getting ready portion of her wedding day:

• Take your time
  • It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the day, but taking a few moments to slow down and savor the experience can make a big difference. Take a deep breath, enjoy a sip of champagne, and take it all in. Get those selfies with Mom and Grandma, remember that this is a special day for them too.

• Trust your team
  • You’ve chosen your hair and makeup artists for a reason, so trust them to do their job. They are there to make you look and feel your best, and they know what they’re doing. So sit back, relax, and let them work their magic. Your Groom is going to be emotional the first time he sees you!

• Embrace your emotions
  • Weddings are emotional events, and it’s okay to feel all the feels. Whether you’re feeling excited, nervous, or overwhelmed, let yourself experience those emotions fully. Your photographer will be there to capture those moments, and they can make for some of the most beautiful and memorable images of the day. Hide some tissue in your bouquet or in your dress pockets!

• Connect with your loved ones
  • Getting ready is also a great time to connect with the people who are closest to you. Take a few moments to chat with your mom, sister, or best friend. Share a laugh, shed a tear, or just enjoy each other’s company. These moments can be just as important and meaningful as any other part of the day.

• Be present
  • Above all, be present in the moment. Your wedding day is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and it’s important to take the time to enjoy it. Soak up the love, the laughter, and the joy that surrounds you, and let yourself be fully present in this special moment. Your photographer will be there to capture it all, and you’ll be grateful for those memories for years to come.

In short, getting ready for your wedding day is about more than just hair and makeup. It’s about embracing the moment, connecting with your loved ones, and savoring every precious second.
